Ritual Tiwah is a tourist attraction because of its unique and characteristical which makes many foreign tourists interested in this ceremony that only done by Dayak, Kalimantan Tengah. Tiwah is a ritual death in a final stage of Dayak community in Central Kalimantan, especially the Dayak Hinterland as Kaharingan believer which is a religion of Dayak ancestors.

Ritual Tiwah is a tourist attraction because of its unique and characteristical which makes many foreign tourists interested in this ceremony that only done by Dayak, Kalimantan Tengah. Tiwah is a ritual death in a final stage of Dayak community in Central Kalimantan, especially the Dayak Hinterland as Kaharingan believer which is a religion of Dayak ancestors.
Tiwah ceremony is a ceremony that is usually held over the death of someone who has died and buried for so long until the remains of the body were expected to live only crumbs. Ritual Tiwah is intended as a ritual to guide the spirit to the right path towards Lewu Tatau (Heaven - in Bahasa Sangiang) so they can live calm and peaceful in God place. Moreover, Tiwah ceremony by Dayak Kalimantan is also intended by the people in Central Kalimantan as the Dayak procession to remove “Rutas” or bad luck for the bereaved family from bad influences that might happen.
For Dayak, a process needs to be continued with the ritual death advanced (improvement) in order not to interfere with the comfort and tranquility of people who are still alive. Furthermore, Tiwah also intend to untie a widow or widower for married couples. Post-Tiwah ceremony, they are allowed to determine the next life partner or still choose not to marry again customarily.
Tiwah ceremony is a ceremony which needs extra energy. Its required long and complicated preparation and a lot of budget. Additionally, this Tiwah ceremony procession itself takes up to several days nonstop, even can be more than one month. Before the Tiwah ceremony is implemented, there is another ritual done called Tantulak ceremony.
According to Kaharingan believer, after death, the dead had not been able to directly enter into heaven. Then Tantulak ceremony was held to escort the spirits of those who died, to the Malian Hill, and they was waiting to depart in order to meet with Ranying Hattala Langit, God of Kaharingan believer, until the bereaved family held a Tiwah ceremony. The highlight of this tiwah is entering the bones which were excavated from the tomb and they purified through a special ritual into “Sandung”. However, before Tiwah ceremony, there was held for spearing sacrificial animals such as buffalo, cows, and pigs.
