WOULD YOU LIKE FRIES WITH SNAP?

McDonald’s wants people to apply for jobs on Snapchat using video CVs dubbed ‘snaplications’. Tech giant has created a McLens which superimposes a McDonald's unform on applicants' pics to help them imagine life as a burger flipper.

MCDONALD’S is doing away with the traditional CV and asking wannabe employees to apply using Snapchat instead. It’s created a McDonald’s themed lens so Australian jobseekers can virtually try on the uniform and send a 10-second video “snaplication”.
Australian jobseekers can apply to McDonald’s using Snapchat. Once the application is reviewed, McDonald’s will send users back to the digital careers hub where they can download an application form.

Around 65 per cent of McDonald’s Australia’s employees are under the age of 18 – and that’s the core audience for the picture app. If you do send a snaplication, there’s a high chance McDonald’s will use it as part of their hiring campaign, so be prepared for your rambling to become public.

“I’ve learnt a lot about Snapchat recently from my 14-year-old daughter,” said Shaun Ruming, chief operating officer of McDonald’s Australia. We gave it a go in the Sun Online office. “We think this is actually a world first. “Snaplications is basically a Snapchat ‘lens’ that gives users the ability to apply for a job — or at least commence that process — by sending a 10-second snap.“We’re the largest employer of youth in the country, so we’re trying to look for new and innovative ways to recruit crew people.”

Mr Ruming told News.com.au that while the 10-second video wouldn’t replace the traditional hiring process, it would form part of the application. “It certainly won’t replace a thorough face-to-face interview, but we’ll obviously take it into account,” he said. He added that it would help them find the “positive, bubbly personality” he claims is necessary for a customer service role.

McDonald’s doesn’t have any firm targets for the experimental campaign. “When we first started talking about it that was one of my questions — how much are we trying to drive recruitment?” he said.

The Snaplications filter will be ‘live’ to all Snapchat users on Friday, after which jobseekers will be able to access it by following a link on the McDonald’s website which will take them back to the app.Snapchatters were reminded that sharing their snaps to Our Story rather than My Story would mean they could become searchable to EVERYONE in the future.
