Since his wife's death 24 years
ago, Leo Kellner (98) filled his days with baking and baking. It was done not
only to kill the lonely, but how to remember and respect the mother and his
wife. According to him, he and his wife learned to make a cake from the mother.
Kellner baked cookies were not enjoyed alone. He shared it for the neighbors and
the needy.
In the first year, Kellner who
lost his wife due to complications related to dementia, managed to bake 144
pies. She went to the funeral homes around her residence and communities to
tell her that she wanted to connect with a family in mourning or hardship. He met and entertained the
families with her homemade cookies.
Kellner was so paying attention
to detail. He wants everyone to enjoy his homemade cookies so he always asks to
be told when any family member has a certain allergy. Kellner admitted to not
discriminating anyone. He wants to share love equally.
"Everyone is my favorite, I
love everyone," he said as quoted from Today, Thursday
(13/4/2017). "Those who give me trouble when I face even difficult times I
still love them, I keep making cakes and pies for them I do not hold a
grudge," he continued.
Kellner's greatness is derived
from the salt acids of life that have been passed. This benevolent grandfather
was born in 1918 and has been through the Great Depression, the worst period of
the economy in the United States. He has experienced wandering and difficulty
finding work.
"I understand how to live a
poor life, often we have only eggs and flour that are processed to eat, so as
long as I'm still able to do it, I'll do it.Many people donate stuff, I make a
cake," Kellner quipped.
The love that Grandpa Kellner
shared has made it to the hearts of many people. She often gets thank-you cards
from all over. She had a word from someone in Alaska who happened to visit the funeral and
tasted the cake Kellner had sent.
No wonder if Kellner was often
invited to various meetings or associations. And he tried to come and bring the
souvenirs of course. Kellner even gladly taught the children of the neighbors
to make cookies so they could share the love. "I'm doing it for everyone,
I'm trying to be happy, I've never put anyone above or below me, I like
everyone and never hate it," Kellner explained. And maybe that's the
secret of Kellner's grandfather's long life!
